Caring Hearts Feline Rescue operates in Versailles and Wilmore, KY. This foster-based rescue asks that you complete an application to meet any of their kittens. The foster will contact you to arrange a visit. Caring Hearts also has frequent adoption events at the Petsmart- Brannon Crossing, from 1 pm to 4 pm on some Saturdays. Contact the rescue in advance via email if there is a particular cat you want to visit at Petsmart because not all cats are present at all adoption events.
Catheads Kitty Rescue Inc
CatHeads Kitty Rescue Inc., located in Louisville, KY, is a non-profit animal rescue full of animal lovers dedicated to rescuing cats in the area. They care for abandoned, surrendered, and stray cats and take rescues from “kill” shelters. They do adoption events at local Feeders Pet Supply stores. Some of CatHeads felines are also at Lucky Cat Cafe & Lounge, Kentucky’s only non-profit cat cafe! It is a fun place to visit and cuddle some adorable cats, and all felines there are available for adoption.

Kaydee’s Promise Feline Rescue serves the Louisville, KY, metro area to care for medically fragile, critically ill, and injured cats until they fully recover. Since 2017, the volunteers at Kaydee’s Promise have made it their mission to find forever homes for these special cats. They have regular adoption events at the Petsmart on Westport Road in Louisville.

Scott County Humane Society
Scott County Humane Society in Georgetown, KY, takes most of its animals from the Scott County Animal Shelter. The animal shelter is a separate organization that will take any animal but, unfortunately, euthanizes when overcrowded. Scott County Humane Society will put the animals they can take into foster homes or rescue programs. They want you to know that each time you adopt a pet from them, you save two lives – the life of your new pet and the life of the pet they now have room to take in at the Humane Society.
Scott County Humane Society is doing great things for animals and the community. They take companion cats and dogs to local nursing homes for visits and to Georgetown College for their Stressless with Pets events, which give students a stress-reducing time during finals week.
Kentucky Humane Society
Kentucky Humane Society, located in Louisville, KY, was founded in 1884 and is Kentucky’s oldest animal welfare organization. It is also the largest pet adoption agency in the state. This private, non-profit rescue offers many resources to the community, including a CARE-a-van Mobile Veterinary Clinic to bring low-cost veterinary care to Louisville and rural area pet owners and a pet resort with a choice of rustic or luxury setting. Kentucky Humane Society has two adoption locations in Louisville. Some of their cats are also available for adoption at Purrfect Day Café on Bardstown Road. They have additional cats with fosters.
Shamrock Pet Foundation Inc
Shamrock Pet Foundation, Inc. in Louisville, KY, feels that the most significant rewards are the animals saved and the community served. Run by a group of volunteers, this rescue group began in 1993 with a mission to spay and neuter, leading to a foster and adoption program. Now Shamrock has a financial aid program to help low-income, disabled, and elderly pet owners and even a hotline for pet owners that need to vent or get advice.
The rescue takes care of behavior and medical issues before their animals are up for adoption. They do not have a brick-and-mortar building, but some of Shamrock’s cats are at Feeders Supply stores in LaGrange and Baxter Avenue in Middletown. Application forms are available on-site and can be submitted any day. They also have cats at the Lucky Cat Café on Dundee Rd.
Protect For Paws
Protect For Paws in Newport/Wilder, KY, is the only no-kill animal shelter in the area. The shelter was founded in 1963 by Lucille Taylor, who devoted her life to protecting the unwanted pets of Campbell County. Protect For Paws takes pride in their animals being “given free rein” and allowing them to enjoy a “lovely little slice of the countryside!” You can find pictures of their available animals on Petfinder. Their Facebook page has more photos and information about their cats. Animal meet-and-greets are by appointment only for the time being.
Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP)
Stray Animal Adoption Program, or SAAP, in the Newport/Northern KY area, is a non-profit organization run by volunteers that gives love, food, medical care, and a temporary home to at-risk animals until they are adopted into new, loving homes. SAAP only allows adoptions to residents in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. On Saturdays, they have adoption events at Petco in Crescent Springs and Petsmart in Newport. It is essential to understand that SAAP does not necessarily take applications as “first come, first serve.” They are committed to finding an excellent match for the pets in their care.

Saving Lives One at a Time in Northern Kentucky is a primarily feline rescue only available through Facebook. The rescue has been active since 2019. Pawprints Animal Rescue
Pawprints Animal Rescue in Florence, KY, is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with a mission to save shelter animals. You can see their cats on Adopt A Pet. They are also active on Facebook. If you want to adopt, fill out the application on their website.
Lexington Humane Society
Lexington Humane Society in Lexington, KY, is the largest pet adoption facility in Central Kentucky. They host four fundraising events each year to benefit the animals. Their motto is “Give Love, Teach Love, Adopt Love.” Lexington Humane Society’s felines are available at the Everyday Adoption Center at the Hamburg PetSmart and their Main Adoption Center on Old Frankfort Pike. PAAWS
PAAWS, “Proving Animals Are Worth Saving,” in Newburgh, IN, serves the tri-state area of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Unless otherwise stated, animals are with foster families. They have new arrivals daily, so not all of their animals are pictured on their website. Some of their cats and kittens not shown can be seen at Pet Supply Plus, located on South Green River Road, or at The Pet Food Center on North Green River Road and Franklin Street. Anyone wanting to adopt should know that nearly all of PAAWS’ cats and kittens must be housed indoors.
